Ten on Tuesday04.24.12

1. Would you rather give up pedicures or flat/curling irons? I think I would rather give up flat/curling irons. My hair is pretty tame so I usually don’t have to fuss with it too much. I would never want to give up pedicures though, they are a necessity
2. Does your middle name have a family meaning? My middle name is Kate and no, it doesn’t have a family meaning that I know of.
3. Do you like to sneeze? No way, who does?!
4. Do you think kids should need to learn cursive? I do think they should learn it, even though I never write in cursive myself…well, only my signature is in cursive.
5. When you go to the beach for the day, what do you take? A beach towel, chair, sunscreen, water, and a good book! Although now that I live in Michigan I don’t get to go to the beach very often!
6. Which decade had the best music? I don’t think it was the best, but I have always liked music from the 90′s.
7. Are you a good hand-shaker? I would consider myself to have a good, firm (but not too firm), handshake.
8. Do you have a go-to meal for when you are at a restaurant and you can’t decide? My go-to meal is always some sort of a salad. A caesar salad is usually a safe bet.
9. Do you have slippers? Yes, I do. I usually only wear them in the winter though as they are super warm.
10. Are you easily grossed out? Only by medical procedures. I hate when they show that stuff on TV, I always look away.
Happy Tuesday!

March Book Review: How to Win Friends and Influence People04.20.12
I know this book review is way overdue, as it is almost the end of April and I am just writing my March book review. However, I did read this book in March but just never found the time to write my review and blog about it. Anyway, my March book was How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. This book is an oldie but such a goodie. Every person should read this book, no matter where you live, what you do for a living, or how old you are. This planet would be a better place if we all lived by the principles in this book.

Here are some of my favorite insights from the book:
- “Criticism is futile because it puts people on the defensive and usually make his strive to justify himself. Criticism is dangerous because it wounds a person precious pride, hurts his sense of importance, and arouses resentment.”
- “There is only one way to get anybody to do anything, and that is by making the other person want to do it.”
- “The deepest urge in human nature is the desire to be important.”
- “One of the most neglected virtues of our daily existence is appreciation.”
- “Of there is one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person’s point on view and to see things from that person’s angle as well as from your own.”
- “You can make more friends in 2 months by becoming genuinely interested in other people than you can get in 2 years of trying to get people genuinely interested in you.”
- “The expression one wears on one’s face is far more important than the clothes one wears on one’s back.”
And wow, there are so many more! Definitely pick up a copy of this book and get reading!
